2016 Presidential Candidates

Bernie Sanders, former Governor of Vermont

Republicans

Note: All of the following people are either declared candidates or else, they have formed a Presidential Exploratory Committee.

An exploratory committee is registered with the Federal Election Commission.  It allows a potential candidate to do fundraising and polling, but the income and expenses don't have to be reported to the F.E.C. until the person becomes a formally-declared candidate.  Exploratory Committees have limits on the amount of money that can be raised from one person or group, but the actual amount of money that is raised can be confidential to the candidate and his advisors.

When a person becomes an official candidate, their Exploratory Committee becomes a Campaign Committee with many reporting requirements.
